MENTORING/LIFE SKILLS

O.U.R. Youth Mentor Program allows children to open up, ask questions, share insecurities and seek advice from individuals they can trust. Far too many youth have lives marked by limited opportunities for growth and repeated disappointments from adults.  In response to this need in the community, we created the O.U.R Youth Mentoring Program in 2006.  A study conducted by Public/Private Ventures research company concluded that children with mentors are less likely to start using drugs or alcohol, and are less likely to skip school (Smith, T. TUTORING

 The Tutoring Program is an after school educational enrichment program for at-risk students who live in our inner-city community.  The program is designed to demonstrate the trend of poor student achievement and how it can be reversed and and allowing all students to master academic standards if they are given time, support and instruction that focuses on their academic needs.  The relationship that develops between tutors, teachers and students provides guidance, support and inspiration necessary for the students to succeed in the future.  One caring person can make a difference in a young person's life.

BULLYING/SUICIDE PREVENTION/MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

 O.U.R. Youth Bullying program believes the best way to address bullying is to stop it before it starts.  Meatal health is taken very serious and we have ceritifed outstanding therapist on staff. We have for core strategies that we follow at O.U.R. Youth: 
  • Help kids understand bullying.  Discuss what bullying is and how to stand up to it safely.  
  • Keep the lines of communication open by checking in with kids daily.
  • Encourage kids to do what they love. 
  • Model how to treat others with kindness and respect daily. 
  •  Providing mental health services which are key for our emotional, psychological, and well-being.

MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

O.U.R. Youth, CDC specializes in mental health-helping people successfully manage their mental health and addiction disorders. Our programs are specifically designed to tackle both issues; our goal is to provide individuals with comprehensive support they need to break the cycle and move towards healing. This program will help individuals gain essential skills and strategies to manage and overcome mental health disorders.

We approach mental health treatment with a holistic perspective, recognizing that addiction and mental health concerns are often intertwined. We believe it is imperative to treat each person on an individualized basis. 

O.U.R. Youth offer expert, intensive intervention for people seeking freedom from addiction and mental health challenges.

To support our goals our staff includes, but not limited to mental health clinicians, addiction specialists, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

About Our Program: 

At O.U.R. Youth CDC, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our Mental Health Program is designed to provide comprehensive mental health support for youth. We focus on building resilience, fostering personal growth, and promoting mental well-being.


What We Offer: 

  •  Individual Counseling: One-on-one sessions with mental health professionals to address personal challenges and develop coping strategies. 
  • Group Therapy: Supportive group sessions where youth can share experiences, learn from peers, and build a sense of community. 
  • Crisis Intervention: Immediate support for youth in crisis, ensuring safety and access to the necessary resources. 
  • Family Support Services: Engaging families in the therapeutic process to strengthen relationships and promote understanding. 
  • Skill-Building Workshops: Interactive workshops focusing on life skills, emotional regulation, and social skills to empower youth.


  O.U.R. Youth specialized in the following Mental Health Disorders

Anxiety Disorder - This is a mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one's daily activities. It is the most common mental health concern in the United States. Over 40 million adults have an anxiety disorder. In addition, anxiety among children is on the rise as the percentage has increased, approximately 10% of children between the ages of 3-10 are diagnosed with anxiety.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) -
This is a neurological condition characterized by difficulty focusing, sitting still, retaining information, and managing impulses. In the United States, an estimated 22 million people have ADHD.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) -
OCD is characterized by recurrent episodes of intrusive, irrational beliefs and worries (obsession) that trigger repetitive actions. People with OCD commit compulsive acts to minimize intrusive thoughts, but ritualistic behaviors recur. 

Depressive Disorder -
Depressive disorders are a class of mood disorders characterized by despair, persistent negative thoughts and behaviors. Severe depressive disorder can exacerbate substance use disorder, cause the urge to self-harm and lead to suicidal behaviors.


Bipolar Disorder - This is a psychiatric disorder defined by abrupt and severe mood changes and energy fluctuations. 

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - This is a psychological condition brought on by experiencing or witnessing a highly traumatic event. Symptoms typically include recurring memories of the event, nightmares and anxiety.

Eligibility: 

Our mental health program is available to all youth who are enrolled in Illinois Medicaid. Participants do not need to be active in our youth mentoring program to access these services.

MISSION STATEMENT 

It is the mission of Outstanding Unique Responsible Youth Community Center through educational forums and various other vehicles, to eliminate personal barriers within the lives of children, youth and adults throughout the community.  It is our aim to encourage, motivate and support individuals with or without disabilities in becoming exceptional citizens in society.  Our primary purpose is to provide professional certified staff committed to making a difference to all participants. Providing mental health & substance programs.  Within this goal, we hope to ensure that every individual reaches their maximum and highest potential for success in their domestic, social, educational and professional lives.  It is our desire that through our efforts, each individual's participant, embodies a greater self image, confidence and courage to pursue and accomplish their dreams.  Its has been proven that the incorporation of arts into the development of youth, serves as an effective stimulus to advance positive growth, maturity and academic excellence.  O.U.R. Youth Mentoring Program is built on a series of artistic activities and events to tighten creativity, interpersonal relationship building and greater sense of self worth among today's youth. 

O.U.R. Youth is currently on a mission to build a facility that will serve more than 400 youth, parents an the community within the Chicagoland area.  The facility will consist of multiple classrooms, gymnasium for sports training and fitness, full kitchen, theatre for the arts, and several other designated areas for hosting programs and events.  The state of the art tri-level facility will house youth from all backgrounds and help them to develop the skills needed to be successful individuals through mentoring, academic assistance, and social and emotional support.
